According to The Senior magazine "loneliness is a growing epidemic impacting seniors across Australia, with one in four seeing themselves as lonely" (Murray, July 2022).  I see sad evidence of this among the residents of the over 50's community where I live. Many are single women, living alone after the death of their lifetime partners.
This photo essay was prepared as one of the assessment tasks for the Diploma of Photography and Photo-Imaging that I am currently completing at Torrens University.  It aims to highlight the day to day experience of so many of our senior citizens, living alone and lonely. Isolated in their homes, hidden behind closed doors. Their opportunities for social connection limited by mobility issues and sight and hearing impairments.
A big thank you to Gloria, my beautiful, 88-years-young next door neighbour who agreed to be my model for this collection of images.
